  • Dr. Monique S. Griffith, the founder of Griffith Psychological Services who is of Caribbean descent, was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in areas within Brooklyn and Monmouth County, New Jersey. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University, and her Master of Science (M.S.) and doctoral (Psy.D.) degrees from Hofstra University on Long Island.     Dr. Monique developed a subspecialty in forensic psychology and is certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional. She has over 12 years of experience providing specialized services to school-aged children (5-12y), adolescents (13-17y), and emerging adults (18-25y) experiencing academic challenges, relationship difficulties, trauma, life transitions, anxiety, and depression.

    Dr. Monique has spent many years dedicated to empowering and supporting individuals as they healed from traumatic experiences and coped with life stressors while developing more meaningful relationships. On macro- and microsystems levels, she developed and implemented programs with the goal of promoting wellness and preventing the progression of illness. Concurrent with her years in behavioral health practice, Dr. Monique consulted with organizations on team development and served as the Director of Health and Human Services for two sizable municipalities in northern New Jersey. In these capacities, she emphasized and supported the provision of access to services in recognition of the relationship between behavioral and public health.

    Dr. Monique is an advocate for health equity, social and environmental justice, and working with multidisciplinary teams to drive change. She is a past president of the New York Association of Black Psychologists (NYABPsi), a full member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), and serves as an active member of the Board of Trustees for Monmouth Medical Center (MMC/MMCSC).

    Currently, Dr. Monique serves as an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at Hofstra University and the Clinical Director for the Institute for Generational Resilience Informed by Trauma (Institute for G.R.I.T) at Hofstra University. She is licensed as a psychologist in the states of New York and New Jersey and within her practice primarily utilizes evidence-based techniques consistent with cognitive-behavioral, emotion-focused and solution-focused therapies, behavioral health education, assessment and consultation. Dr. Monique aims to work collaboratively to provide a safe, supportive and empowering, environment as clients embark on their journeys toward wellness and resilience in the face of adversity.
