Chapter History

​For years, sorority sisters in Monmouth County, New Jersey, frequently met at bridge clubs and other social gatherings. As a result, organizing a chapter in the area was often suggested. Kayvonne Davis and Maebel Wiley led the charge in 1976 to find other sorority sisters in Monmouth County to socialize the idea to charter a chapter.

After the initial gathering, Lillian Green, Alice Parker, and Margaret Parker joined Davis and Wiley in planning for the first meeting of the Monmouth County Group. The group met on a Sunday afternoon in July of 1976 at Wiley's home in Red Bank, New Jersey. The charter group formed from this meeting, and several more like it. The group consisted of the twenty-seven charter members listed below.

By steadfast effort, the "Vision Fair" of the charter group came to fruition on April 23, 1978, when Lambda Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered. The chartering luncheon took place at the Molly Pitcher Inn in Red Bank, New Jersey. Marjorie Parker delivered the keynote address, and Inez Lee was selected to serve as the first Basileus of the chapter.
